Cotter has planted test plots in both of these soil areas, and will,
based on the results of these test plots, use the most effective seed
mixture for this purpose.
Erosion in the pit area will be controlled by the existing countours in
the pit. (see Figure 2) Drainage of runoff from the watershed above the
pit will be diverted around it by runoff control structures located at
the east and south pit rim.
Site security will be insured by routine site visits of Cotter's repre-
sentatives from the Company's Nucla Office. These visits will provide
an opportunity to note the stability of the pit walls, evaluate the
effectiveness of erosion control measures and to service the water
treatment plant (see Notice of Temporary Cessation for File No. 77-308).
Additionally, a two strand, wire fence has been constructed around the west,
south and east pit rim, and will be constructed around the north pit rim
and at the mouth of the pit.
It is anticipated that mining will resume after market conditions improve
to the point that the cost of producing uranium from the ore from this
mine is less than the market price of uranium. Commencement of mining at
that time will be preceded by a thorough and documented safety inspection.
All necessary repair work (i.e., repair of pit walls and ramps) will be
completed prior to resumption of full production.
If production is not resumed within five years of the date of this notice,
Cotter will submit to the MLRB a report requesting an extension of the time
period of temporary cessation, and noting the reasons therefore.
If you have any questions or require additional information regarding
this matter, please contact me at your earliest opportunity.
Sincerely,
~ i~ ~` ~
~J.~'~ McCluskey
Executive Vice Pr dent
TS/na
File No. 8111K8643-19-9
