SMOOTH LLDPE GEOMEMBRANE
Dear Ron:
Golder Associates Inc. (Golder) has completed the liner load and interface sheaz strength
tests associated with the 100 mil smooth linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) that was
requested by the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company (CC&V) as part of the
1996 Phase II Completion seomenFbrane evaluation.
Site specific materials were used in the testing- Cresson Ore and Pad No. 3 materials was
processed to sleet the Drain Cover Fill and the Low Volume Solution Collection Fill
1 specifications, respectively. Poly-Flex Inc. provided 100 mil smooth LLDPE
f Qeomembrane samples.
The Drain Cover Fill / 100 mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane/ Low Volume Solution
Collection Fill confwration was subjected to a normal load of 385 psi for a period of 24
hours. The geometnbrane was observed to be indented from the granular materials-
However, no pinholes or defects were observtd when dtt gtomtmbrane was vacuum
tested. The liner load laboratory repon is preserved in Attachment A.
Interface sheaz strength testing was performed for the Drain Cover Fill / 100 mil smooth
(LLDPE oeomembrane/ Low volume Solution Collection rill configwration. The
configuration was loaded [o normal loads of 50, 100, 150 and 300 psi and sheazed at a rate
of 0.04 inches per minute. Test results indicate that the confiswtation exhibited a peak and
residual friction angle of 31 degrees and a cohesion of 55 psf, The test results for this
confi~ttration exceeds the 21 degree friction angle and 0 cohesion that was established as
the minimum interface shear strettgtlt parameters, as identified iu a January 9, 1996 letter
to Mr. Ron Roberts entitled "Interface Shear Strength Resulu for the Phase II Cresson
' Projec[". Interface test resulu for the Drain Cover Fill / 100 mil smooth LLDPE /Low
volume Solution Collection Fill configuration is presented in Attachment B.

~ 003
GOLDER-GCS
OFFICES INAUSff7AUA CANADA, GERMANY.
