Qoard of Adjustnrcnt
Hoa'ring Date: January 7, 1976
M I N U T E S
_ !. _ .
REOPENING R REHEARING:
request to amend resolution)

Case No. M75-1
COOLEY GRAVEL COt1PANY
S4! of Morrison
Quarry operation in M-C zone
ueor<)e Holiey, Attor~n~y, 13':9 ::est Ccifa:: Avenue, Golden 80401; Dale
Ream, property manager; and Robert Quist, plant manager; were present
on behalf of Cooley Gravel Company, P.O. Box 5485, Denver 80217.
A letter had been received requesting certain amendments to the reso-
lution adopted September 10, 1975 which was considered by the Board
on December 17, 1975 at which time proper action was taken to reopen
the case and set the matter for rehearing today. New public notice
signs were prepared, picked up and posted.
There were 9 items of concern to the applicant set forth in the letter
dated Novemher 21, 1975. An explanation statement was submitted today
which summarizes the reasons for concern.
HOUk'i OF OPERATION, BLASTING, HAULING:
The resolution limits hours of operation from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday
thru Saturday with only repair work on Sundays. Blasting is limited
from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ^1onday thru Saturday. Hauling material is
prohibited on Sundays.
~~~ ~~,
The applicants are asking that there be no restriction hours and days
of operation, blasting and hauling since they have had none in the past
5 years. They are approximately 3500 ft. from the nearest residence.
The quarry is more or less remotely located. There have never been any
complaints received by the Company or by the County.
Mr. Quist and htr. Ream explained that hours of operation vary according
to season and demand. Although they don't make a practice of it, there
dre times they operate from very early morning until midnight. lJinter
operations are normally just 5 days a weel; from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but
sunmrer hours are considerably longer. Previous testimony vras that it
is not unusual to operate 15 or 16 hours a day during summer and tfrat
quarrying is not done on Sunday.
There is a need for occasional hauling on Sundays to supply the demand
of contractors having deadlines to meet. There is no evidence that
occasional hauling on some Sundays creates or adds to traffic problems.
Limiting tlasting hours was not a great concern since they only I~l~rst
2 or 3 times a v~ec;;, r.or~a~;rly during lunch breik or at quitting time.
Mr. James asked if blasting could be limited Lo 1 hour after.suru•isr.
and 1 hour before sunset which was agreeable and in excess of whet
normal lrrocluction requires,
~z ~
(conLinu,:a)
