This is provided in response to your request. This sump, along with the
existing sump, will serve until the second phase of the Valley Leach Facility is constructed. The
additional sump is designed to hold the pumps and reduce air entrainment and, by allowing water
to increase in depth in the existing sump, will increase retention time and thereby further
decrease sediment loads, if any loading occurs. The additional sump, because it is constructed
of concrete, will be easier to enter for retrieval of pumps.
Per your instructions, the installers were directed to roughen the concrete surface to provide a
foothold for wildlife. During operations, this pond will contain only underdrain flow from the
perforated pipe and rock underdrain, the spring flow from Arequa Gulch, and local runoff from
the immediate area of the tce berm. Upon completion of the second phase, the sumps will be
removed and the area will become part of the Valley Leach Facility.
If ditional info mation is required, please let me know,
Si c~r ly v
Jo E. Hardaw y
anager Environmental Affairs
Thank you for your assistance.
Attachment: a/s (2 pp)
FILE: CC&VSTIP.002
