Henrietta Avenue
Woodland Park, CO 80863
File Code: 7700
Date: April 19, 2000
RECEIVED
NOV t 4.2003
Division ~f Minerals and Geology
Dear Mr. Quinn:
This letter is concerning cur shared access Through Fcrest Develepmert Road 348A located in
T10S, R69W, Section 34 (north'/z), Douglas County (see enclosed map).
As you may be aware, the meadows just before your quarry gate have become a "party" location.
During the past two years we have documented late-night drinking parties involving minors,
unattended campfires, illegal off-highway vehicles use (primarily motorcycles and ATV's), and
indiscriminate target shooting.
We hired a Forest Protection Officer (FPO) last summer in hopes of alleviating these concerns.
Our FPO issued numerous violation and warning notices in this area, but the problems remains.
Our law enforcement personnel believe this location is prone to illegal activity because it is close
to Woodland Park, yet isolated and away from main travelways. The Douglas County Sheriffls
Office has requested that we address this situation as soon as possible.
The Forest Service is proposing to install a gate at the entrance to FDR 348A where it leaves
FDR 348 in May 2000. We would pay for the gate, installation, and site rehabilitation. We
would also provide you with a key to the gate so you would continue to have access to your
patented quarry.
We aze hoping you will agree with this course of action. Please contact Rick Ellsworth of my
staff a[ 719-477-4216 and provide him with any feedback on this proposal and also to facilitate
coordination. We thank you for your consideration of this matter.
Sincerely,

~U~ WILLIAM R.
