• <br />• <br />., (3) documentation assuring compliance with applicable <br />requirements of other Federal laws, regulations, and <br />executive orders, <br />(4) comments and recommendations or concurrence of <br />other Federal agencies, and the public, <br />(5) the findings and recommendations of the Bureau of <br />Land Management regarding the resource recovery and <br />protection plan, the Federal lease requirements, and <br />the Mineral Leasing Act, and <br />(6) the findings and recommendations of the Colorado <br />Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) regarding the <br />PAP and the Colorado State program. <br />II2. Background <br />The Foidel Creek underground coal mine is located in Routt <br />County, Colorado. The mine has been in operation since <br />1983. The life of the currently approved mining operations <br />within the approved permit area is estimated to be 5 years. <br />The mining operations use longwall mining methods. The <br />average annual production rate is 7-8 million tons per year <br />from the Wadge coal seam, but the maximum production rate <br />could reach the approved 10 million tons per year. <br />The mining plan for the Foidel Creek Mine on Federal leases <br />C-20900, C-081330, C-0128433, C-16284, and D-052547 was <br />initially approved on January 16, 1987. Since that approval <br />there has been one mining plan modification for those <br />Federal leases that was approved on February 10, 1994. <br />Another mining plan modification was approved on June 14, <br />1996 for Federal lease COC-54608. <br />The States permit area covers 22,240 acres. About 344 <br />surface acres are disturbed within the State's permit area. <br />A total of 4,561 acres of Federal coal exist in the <br />currently approved mining plan area. <br />A total of 29.7 million tons of Federal coal exist in the <br />currently approved mining plan area. <br />No Federal surface land exists in the currently approved <br />mining plan area. <br />The postmining land use within the currently approved mining <br />plan area is pastureland and rangeland. <br />• <br />-2- <br />
