li
~~
SECTION H - WILDLIFE
The subject area, especially along the river, does
provide abundant cover for wildlife habitats. The Following
mammals have been observed on numerous occasions: mice,
Norway or Brown rat, red fox, skunks and a few muskrats.
All of the above animals are quite common in Colorado, with
two of them considered severe pests (mice and Norway or
Brown rat).
Of the Avian Species, numerous ducks frequent the area,
again mainly along the river. Many unidentified Frinqillids
(sparrow forms and finchs) were also observed. The large
cottonwoods along the river provide habitat for a number of
magpies. Present ponds and abandoned gravel-pit lakes
provide habitat for Great Blue Herrons, geese and shore
birds.
There will be no channelizing of the river bed or removal
of trees, shrubs and other vegetation along the Cache La
Poudre River which would eliminate any wildlife population
that exist there today. Any alteration to the area will
provide "stream improvement" and provide additional habitat
for water birds.
Impact and Reclamation
Reclamation of the subject property will include planting
of additional trees, shrubs and grasses. A lake area of
128.539 acres will be added to existing lakes and ponds.
in addition, the lake will add a new form of wildlife;
namely, fish, to the future enjoyment and recreational use
for the area.
Conclusion
The proposed mining activity will not have any significant
impact upon Colorado wildlife.
On the contrary, the reclamation program will enhance,
add and open new habitats for wildlife and at the same time
it will provide additional natural recreational resources
for Man.
-11-
