,t9ike Boa(ay. D,41G
• © Ocmber?l, /998
Pnge ~
irrigated alfalfa field in Section 30, T6N, R87W (see Exhibit 16-3, Sheet 2 of 2). The flow in
Sage Creek cannot support flood irrigation of ten or more acres of the alfalfa field
continuously during the June through September growing season.
4.) A MONITORING SYSTEM TO VERIFY THESE PROJECTIONS.
Per page 16-3-6 of Tab 16-3, and Tab 15 (Hydrologic Monitoring Program), a monitoring
program will be in place during the Yoast mining and reclamation periods, and will include
groundwater and surface water monitoring stations in the Sage Creek drainage. Data from
the program will be utilized to measure hydrologic changes occurring, and allow
adjustments to be made should changes deviate markedly from the computations and
analyses presented on pages 17 to 43 (Impact of Spoil Water Quality on the Ground and
Surface Water Quality) of Tab 17. Key monitoring locations in the Sage Creek drainage are
listed in Tables 15-2 and 15-3 of Tab 15. Analytical parameter lists and monitoring
frequencies are also tabulated in Tab 15.
On behalf of SCC, MW would like to thank the Division for reviewing the permit and
presenting comments and stipulations regarding potential impacts to the Sage Creek
watershed. However, as summarized above, we feel the current permit adequacely addresses
the issues of concern within the Sage Creek drainage. If the Division would like to discuss
these issues further or address additional concerns, please contact me at the Steamboat
Springs, Colorado office of Momgomery ~Xfatson Americas at 970/879-6260.
Sincerely,
MONTGOMERY WATSON MINING GROUP
~~
Brad Piske,
Senior Hydrologist
cc: Mike Altavilla/SCC
Dennis Jones/SCC
Jerry Nettleton/MWMG
Jay James/MWMG
