As I have previously indicated,
I am concerned that you have not described your proposed overburden handling
operation, nor have you updated your proposed reclamation schedule to reflect
the changes you are requesting. The deadline for making a decision on this
matter is June 29, 1981 and so it would seem that all materials you plan to
submit in support of your proposal should be available in this office for
review not later than June 22, 1981.
The schedule to which GEC has committed itself for the various reclamation
efforts has been unclear and I think both CEC and MLRD would benefit if these
time Lines were updated and clarified. You will be preparing a new time Line
for the reclamation of the active pit area as a portion of the proposed technical
revision and the anticipated request to extract coal by angering. The schedule
for reclamation of the old Canon National ("prospecting") pit was clearly set
forth, as we agreed, in the May, 1981 Inspection Report and a copy is enclosed.
If you can give me 3 days notice, I will plan to be present when you close
the portals in this pit. In your letter of March 15, 1980 regarding a technical
revision to your approved mining sequence, you indicated that the following
reclamation operations would be completed according to this schedule:
