1~-h)

ROUNDUP (Glyphosate)
Roundup can be applied anytime during the growing season when growing condi-
tions are favorable and weeds have good foliage. The effectiveness of this com-
pound is dependent on translocation from the point of foliage contact to other
parts of the plant, therefore, it is important that the weed have foliage. Weeds
that are only partially emerged, or have been cut off by tillage, will not be
controlled. It is also important that the leaves be relatively clean and not
covered with dust. Also, plants that are near maturity and hardened off, are less
affected. Visible effects on most annual weeds occur within 2 to 4 days, but on
most perennial weeds, may not be visible for 7 to 10 days. Visible effects are
a gradual wilting and yellowing of the plant which advances to complete browning
and desiccation. Rainfall occurring within 6 hours after application may reduce
effectiveness. There is very little soil activating with Roundup.
This herbicide mixes readily with water; use clean water. Avoid drift and
follow the same safe and proper application techniques common for other foliage
applied herbicides. Read and follow label directions.
Roundup has been evaluated in Colorado on several of the troublesome perennial
and noxious weeds. Almost consistently it has been most effective when applied to
actively growing plants in the fall, 2 to 3 weeks before the first expected killing
frost. In almost all cases, combinations of Roundup with Banvel have been more
effective on perennial broadleaf weeds than Roundup alone and more economical.
PERENNIAL WEEDS
CANADA THISTLE: Apply 2 qts of Roundup plus 1 pt of Banvel per acre when the
plants are at least 10" high or approaching bud stage. All treatments must be
applied before frost. Wait 7 or more days after application before tillage.
FIELD BINDWEED: Apply 2 qts of Roundup plus 1 pt of Banvel per acre when bind-
weed is at or beyond full bloom. Allow 7 or more days after application before
tillage.
QUACKGRASS and JOHNSONGRASS: Apply 1
acre on Johnsongrass when quackgrass is 8"
For best results on Johnsongrass, apply to
reached the boot to head stage of growth a
intensive tillage will improve results but
after treatment.
qt per acre on quackgrass and 2 qts per
or more high and is actively growing.
actively growing plants when most has
td at least 18" high. Plowing or other
should not be done sooner than 7 days
OTHER WEEDS: Refer to the label for a list of other perennial weeds that can
be controlled with Roundup or Roundup/Banvel combinations and for time of appli-
cation and suggested rates.
(3/83)
