TORDON (picloram)
Tordon is formulated as a potassium salt containing 2 lbs. of picloram
(Tordon 22K) per gallon; it is also available in granule form containing 2%
picloram. There are other specialized formulations. Tordon is a very active
herbicide many times mare toxic to most broadleaf weeds than 2,4-D. It is
likewise many times more toxic to most broadleaf crops than 2,4-D, therefore
it must be used properly and with extreme care. Minute amounts will cause
injury to potatoes, sugarbeets, beans and alfalfa.
Tordon residue dissipates slowly from soil, eliminating production of
most crops from one to several years. It is impossible to predict with accu-
racy how long Tordon residue will remain in soils.
(IV-5
PRECAUTIONS: Tordon can move with water in irrigation or drainage ditches.
Do not treat the inner banks or bottom of irrigation ditches. Do not move treated
soil with farming equipment. Do not mix with other pesticides.
Tordon is a Restricted Use Pesticide. It is registered for use in non-
cropland areas only. It is registered in Colorado for use on rangelands and
permanent grass pastures.
PERENNIAL WEEDS: Tordon is used for controlling Canada thistle, field bind-
weed, Russian knapweed, leafy spurge, toadflax, and several other noxious weeds.
( Many grass species are relatively tolerant to picloram.
1. .
Apply Tordon anytime during the growing season, after frost is out of the
soil, preferably when there is soil moisture and plants are actively growing.
Use 2 to 3 lbs (1 to 1 1/2 gallons) per acre in 50 to 100 gallons of water. For
spot treatments, mix 6 tbls. of Tordon 22K in 2 gallons of water and apply on 1000
sq. ft. of area.
(3l 82)
