Stormwater at this site is routed into the excavated sediment basins which are located at the
bottom of the excavation areas. Diversion swales are constructed on the uphill side of the
equipment parking areas to route stormwater around the equipment.
Specific spill prevention and response procedures are outlined in this facilities Spill Prevention,
Containment, and Countermeasure Plan.
Erosion control ditches should be constructed at the base of all stockpiles that are not used on a
regular basis. This will help prevent sediment from being carried away from the stockpile.
Revegetation of disturbed areas remains the most efficient and economical BMP for reducing
sediment transport from large areas. Roots hold soils in place and surface growth filters sediment
and reduces runoff velocities, causing deposition of suspended soil panicles. Disturbed areas will
be revegetated as soon as it is economically feasible to do so. Mulching of revegetated azeas will
occur if needed, to hold soils in place and prevent both the seeds and the soils from washing away
prior to germination.
5.7 Employee Education
The S~1'MP Administrator shall review environmental and safety procedures with all personnel as
required by the Mining Safety and Health Administration. This training session will be conducted
to inform personnel of procedures to be followed so that the operation is conducted in compliance
with all permits. Some of the topics which may be included are:
Spill Prevention and Response
Good Housekeeping Techniques
Alaterial Management Procedures
Sediment and Erosion Prevention
Supervisors will be responsible for instructing those under their direction to implement the
SWMP, so that the conditions of the CDPS permit are maintained.
All existing employees will receive training in the above procedures within three months of the
completion of the Stormwater Management Plan. All new employees added after the initial
training session shall be informed of procedures within two weeks of their hire date.
5.8 Testing and Control for Non-Stormwater Discharges
This site has been visually inspected and evaluated for the presence of any non-stormwater
discharges. Groundwater at this facility is not intercepted by the mining operation. All
stotmwater that is routed into the sediment basins that comes into contact with any aspect of the
mining operation becomes classified as process water. The process water is discharged from the
site under the site Colorado Dischazge Permit #COG-500592. There is no acid mine drainage or
spoil springs occurring at this site. The sanitary system in place at this facility consists of a septic
system for the office building.
6
