The site access point has been paved from Alleghney Drive to the office location. All other roads
inside the site are watered daily, to help prevent fugitive dust, and reduce the amount of dirt and
materials carried onto Allegheny Road. This measure will be repeated as often as is needed,
through the life of the mine and will continue until reclamation has been completed.
Personal and office trash generated at this site is collected in one central area and periodically
removed from the site by a designated trash collecting company. The perimeter of the site is
inspected daily, and any trash noticed during this inspection is collected and placed with the other
trash for proper disposal.
Used or spent hydraulic fluids, motor coolants and lubricants are stored on site in marked barrels
or drums only long enough to make pick-up and disposal cost effective. These used liquids are
stored near the new liquids on pallets, and surrounded on the downhill side by berms. This area is
visually inspected weekly for signs of leaks or spills, and any contamination cleaned up promptly.
Waste fuels are not stored on site.
Stockpiles of topsoil and overburden are located at various places around the site for ease of
reclamation work. These stockpiles are disturbed often as reclamation work generally proceeds
concurrently with mining. Any stockpiles of topsoil or overburden that are kept longer than one
year, undisturbed, will be seeded with a fast growing cover plant to help prevent erosion from
wind and stormwater. Erosion control ditches will be cut around the base of these stockpiles to
help prevent excess sediment runoff from storm events.
Raw material and final product stockpiles are kept in the central portion of the Quarry. These
stockpiles are disturbed often and the area observed on an on-going daily basis for signs of
erosion. Any potential problems are addressed immediately to prevent storm~vater degradation.
5.3 Preventative Maintenance
Preventative maintenance for the vehicles located on site will occur on a daily basis. All vehicles
will be checked for signs of leaks or other potential problems. Any problems identified will be
corrected immediately.
The entire site will receive a comprehensive inspection on a minimum six (6) month basis to insure
that all Best Management Practices (Bh1Ps) are functioning well and any off-site discharges have
the best water quality obtainable from good management practices. Visual inspections of all the
BMPs will occur after each significant rainfall event. Any problems noted will be corrected
immediately.
Settling ponds will be monitored regularly and cleaned out as needed to maintain the quality of the
discharge to the intermittent stream that flows into Douglas Creek.
4
