Alpine Rock Swan River, M-1993-035
Notice of Imported Materials
3 August 2007
and west of Muggins Gulch will receive the initial 8,000 cubic yards of
material. In the future, import activities may affect the general area shown on
the attached import placement map.
(b)The Approximate Volume of Inert Material to be Backfilled.
The initial amount to be imported from Muggins Gulch is approximately 8,000
cubic yards of topsoil and plant growth medium. Following the initial phase,
additional import of material necessary to fulfill the enhanced objectives of the
reclamation plan may include clean structural fill, topsoil, and/or plant growth
medium. Placement of large volumes of inert fill would be subject to possible
amendments or technical revisions affecting the reclamation plan, as
appropriate.
(c) A Signed Affidavit certifying that the Material is Clean and Inert
An affidavit certifying the imported material to be clean and inert signed by
Brian Lorch, Senior Resource Specialist, Summit County Open Space and
Trails, as duly authorized affiant for Summit County, which will be responsible
for import by agreement, is attached.
(d) The Approximate Dates the Proposed Activity Will Commence and End
It is anticipated the importation of materials from Muggins Gulch will begin in
August 2007. The import of additional materials from other locations will
occur, as materials become available, over the remaining life of the mine and
reclamation activities.
(e) An Explanation of How the Bac~lled Site Will Result in aPost-Mining
Configuration that is Compatible with the Approved Post-Mining Land Use.
Clean inert material, structural fill, topsoil, and/or plant growth medium will be
generated, initially, within Muggins Gulch directly north of the M-1993-035
permit boundary. Additional clean material from off-site may also be used to
build a base to support rooted plants as necessary to achieve reclamation
goals. This material will be imported to the permit area when available from
various off-site locations. The permit holder will make certain that imported
materials are clean and inert.
The approved post-mining land use at M-1993-035 site is wildlife
habitat/rangeland. One of the primary objectives of the reclamation plan is to
modify the current stream alignment to a more natural meandering course
and to restore the riparian boundary adjacent to it. The availability of
additional clean fill material and topsoil will be necessary to create land
features consistent with desirable wildlife habitat.
