MONITORING INFORMATION
Moffat Area
Nine separate blocks are classified in the current reclaimed area at the southern end of the
Moffat Area. These areas are shown on Exhibit 1, Sheet 1 of 2, of this report. Block 1 is live
handled topsoil that was not to receive additional seeding as a test block for live handling roto-
cleared topsoil for reintroduction of native plant species. A portion of the northern section of
Block 1 did receive interseeding in 1995, as referenced in the 1995 Annual Reclamation
Report. Block 2 is also at the southern end of the Moffat reserve. This area is live handled
topsoil that was seeded in the spring of 1993. Block 3 is a 1993 live handled topsoil area that
was seeded in the spring of 1994. Block 4 was topsdled in 1993 and was not seeded at the time
of application to further the trial area started with Blockl. Block 4 was also interseeded in
1995. Block 5 is live handled topsoil area that was seeded with the approved reclamation seed
mix in the spring of 1994. Block 6 is live handled topsoil that was placed during calendar year
1993 and seeded in the spring of 1994. Bk>ck 7 is part of the no seed area that was rwt seeded
as a continuation of the test practice in Blocks 1 and 4. This topsoil was placed in 1994. Blocks
8 and 9 were also topsoiled in 1994, and were seeded in 1995. Remaining areas to be seeded on
the Moffat area will be designated as Block 10. Block 10 will all be topsoiled with material
from the Moffat area topsoil stockpile in 1996 and will receive seeding in the fall of 1996.
None of this Block 10 area was imentaried because at the time of this report the areas had not
yet been reclaimed.
Block 1
Moffat Area, Block 1 was evaluated using the methods described in BLM Technical Note No. 346.
The erosion condition composite soil surface factor score of this site is 17.0, which places it in
the Stable Erosion Condition Class. Please note that in 1994, Block 1 was separated into two
areas, the southern most scoring in the Stable reach and the northern half in the high end of the
Slight classification with a score of 40. In 1995, the factor for this site was 22.0. This shows
an Improvement over two years for the entire block. The tabulated results for this survey are
shown in Table 1. There are some gullies concenvated at the lower end of this block above down
drain #3 in block 2. These gullies show very little recent degradation, most have vegetation on
sides and bottom.
Block 2
Moffat Area, Block 2 was evaluated using the methods described in BLM Technical Note No. 346.
The erosion condition composite soil surface factor score for this site is 26.0, which places it in
the Slight erosion class. The tabulated results for this survey are shown in Table 2. This block
scored slightly worse than last year's report because of new rills and gullies that have formed
along the disturbance created when placing the cloth in the drainage as part of the 1995
remediation. This drainage needs more time to develop vegetation that will eliminate the erosion
in this area. This area will not be added to the repair list at this time in order to alkrvv
vegetation to establish along the corridor that was disturbed to install the matting.
2
