Because of faulting of the
coal seams, the company wishes to expand its operations from its
esent permit into several of its other Federal leases. The
•posed expansion boundary falls within the original
.e-of-mine area as delineated by Sheridan Enterprises, Inc., in
1y81 for the Munger and McClane Canyon Mine project(s) (Loma
Project). Previous consultations with your office by us and the
Bureau of Land Management (letter enclosed) cover the areas in
question (see enclosed map).
As background, a number of cultural resource studies were
prepared for Sheridan Enterprises involving the McClane and
Munger Canyon coal mines and surrounding area. For the most
part, the surveys combined lands associated with the McClane
Canyon 'nine and its neig'nbor the tiunger Canyon mine as a single
operation. Cultural resource studies include:
A. Grand River Institute 1980 survey "Cultural Resources
Inventory, McClane and Munger Canyons Mine Plan Permit
Areas."
B. Grand River Institute 1983 survey °Cultural Resources
Inventory of Several Proposed Roads and Storage Areas
Associated with the McClane and Munger Canyons Mine
Plan/Permit Areas in Garfield County, Colorado."
C. Several surveys of access roads and drill hole locations
were conclucted in the late 1970's by the Antiquities
• Researc!; Division of the Historical Museum and Institute of
