Revised llll/80
Section 780.18(b) Continued
Evaluation of reference areas will be made using the vegetation data

contained in Section 779.19. The proposed reference areas for the Energy
Mines No. 1 and 2 and Eclanan Park have been revised to more accurately
reflect the wncerns of MLRD and OSM with respect to location and accessi-
bility. These changes can be found on Maps 15 and 16. In accordance
with recommendations of MLRD and OSM, a listing was prepared denoting the
number of reference azeas found in each range site. This information is
found on Table 98(a) found on page 780-136(b).
Sampling of reference areas will be based upon the sampling of three
sites. Unmined areas will be sampled and compared with the appropriately
marked reference azea. Ikata will be oompazed on the correlation coeffi-
cient determined. The acreage of the vegetation type disturbed by minidh
will.be c~gadred with the vegetative data ®btained on this site after
mining based upon the ~.eighted figure espected on this sites 1'Piis ~'
we],ghted average from the reclaimed area twill then be fired with the.-
undisturbed reference area.
Reference azea selection was based upon.~uarantative data obtained
u
in the 1979 season. Sampling that will be done in sampling of the refer-
ence areas, unmined azeas in front of mining, and reclaimed sites will be
sampled accrording to methodologies presented in Section 779.19. Sampling
will be performed using a 10-point frame to determine cover for lower
life forms. The line intercept method will be used on taller shrubs.
780-136(a)
