CARPENTER
DALE TOOLEY
(1933 ~ 19051
This letter will confirm the voicemail messages we have exchanged over the last
two weeks and our telephone conversation yesterday regarding removal and disposal of
oil-contaminated soil at the Gold Hill Mill. This matter was addressed in your letter dated
September 15, 1995.
The oil-contaminated soil was located in a small shed attached to the west side of
the Mill building. This shed houses an air compressor and a vacuum pump, both of which
are electrically powered. Neither machine uses liquid fuel, nor is any such fuel stored in
the shed.
The oil-contaminated soil was removed by hand with shovels and placed in four
55-gallon barrels which have been stored in the Mill building. This is verified in Allen
Sorenson's report of his inspection on November 13, 1995. Thereafter, COM, Inc.
received the laboratory analysis of the soils for TPH, a copy of which is enclosed. I
understand from our conversation yesterday that you do not require an analysis for BTEX
because no liquid fuel is used or stored in the shed.
lJd C6-I, //R&-J
