I informed reiterated to Preston the
requirement that the outslopes above the Chen's Hill access road be
topsoiled first. Preston and I measured the approximate ditch
length and determined that approximately 240 linear feet of ditch
would be constructed from the top of the drainage to Magpie Creek
and approximately 1280 linear feet of ditch would be constructed
from the top of the drainage to the creek located below Dr.
Corley's gate. The dozers, front end loader and scraper where all
working on removing the topsoil stockpiles on the north end of
Chen's Hill (with the exception of the pile in contention). The
scrapper cycle time was 3 minutes per approximately 12 cubic yards.
On June 3, 1994 I traveled from the office to the GEC Project. The
equipment was continuing to move topsoil to the outslope of Chen's
Hill. The scrapper was hauling topsoil to the extreme south east
end of the ridge and the remaining equipment was beginning to
spread the topsoil on the south end.
I walked the project site with Preston. I asked Preston to show me
the gravel he intended to use on the north slope road and the V
ditches. The borrow area is located at the north end of the east
pit and contains sufficient rock, however, this rock will have to
be screened in order to meet the bid specs. I informed Preston
that we would grant some minor variance for rock in the ditch if it
was slightly oversize, however, no fines.
I told Preston not to move the north and south topsoil stockpiles
currently in dispute without John Nelson present. This will
hopefully avoid potential disagreements. Also, the equipment
rental to construct the drainage and road at the base of the West
Slope must only be done with the project manager present.
I completed the field directive for the ditch number 1 per
discussions with the coal program. There was no change in the
depth of the gravel liner.
I told Preston to haul all remaining topsoil in the east pit
