© mouse, cottontail rabbit and many species of songbirds. <br /> No state or nationally endangered species is known to be <br /> present, although several species could occasionally occur <br /> in the general area of the project site. <br /> Soils and Geology <br /> Soils on site are predominantly Niwot, which is typically <br /> shallow soil underlain by sand and gravel deposits. Beneath <br /> the valley fill material lies bedrock of Pierre Shale. <br /> Niwot soils are not classified as prime farmland by the Soil <br /> Conservation Service. The other soil type, Loveland, occupies <br /> • 18 acres on site and can be classified as prime farmland <br /> if the land is irrigated with an adequate water supply. <br /> Vegetation <br /> Man's activities along South Boulder Creek for the last 150 <br /> years have substantially changed the original plant <br /> communities . In the lightly grazed pastures , original <br /> vegetation patterns can still be seen. Sedges and tall <br /> grasses constitute the bulk of the plant cover in these <br /> areas. In heavily grazed pastures , native prairie species <br /> have been replaced by European pasture grasses (orchard grass, <br /> timothy and red top) .
