1
' 8.3 Drilling Procedures
.A Westerr. Fuels' geologist :vil] be assigned to the drilling unit and will be on
' site during all field opersticns.
' The drill hole locations will be prepared by removing vegetation and topsoil from
the drilling site. Vegetation and topsoil will be segregated so that during site
' reclamation, topsoil can be placed back on the location and the vegetation spread
back over the topsoil, see Section 11(f). Mud pits to contain drilling Pluids
will be constructed adjacent to the drill pad as stipulated in Section 11(i).
Holes will be drilled with 5-1/4 or 5-5/8 inch diameter bits using air with mist
injection and/or water and drilling mud as dictated by hole conditions. Cuttings
' samples will be obtained and described. Drilling depths will range from 980 feet
to about 1895 feet. Total depth of each hole will be st least 20 meters below the
deepest mineable ccsl. Coring is not anticipated at this time; however, detailed
down hole geophysical logs will be obtained at each hole. The estimated depths
' for each hole sre shown in Table 8-1.
' 9.0 RECLA:t4.4TION PROCEDURES
9.1 Drill Hole Plugging
1
All drill holes will be grout-cemented through coal-bearing strata, with cement
' extending 50 feet above and below the mineable coal bed. The remainder of the
hole will be backfilled with cuttings and mud to ten (10) Peet below the surface.
' The hole will than be grout-cemented to the original ground surface. A 2 to 3 Pt.
length of casing will be cemented into the top one foot of each hole and will
' serve ss the hole monument. Aluminum caps marked with the hole identification
number will be cemented into the top of the hole monument, see Section I1(m).
' 9.2 Surface Reclamstior.
' Reclamation of disturbed areas will be initiated following site abandonment in
late summer or fall. Drill hole sites will be recontoured, disked and seeded as
' stipulated, see Section 11(k).
9
