1
Williams Fork and Upper Williams Fork Formation equivalents ss shown in Figure
' 6-1. The major coal seams are found in the Lower Williams Fork Formation. The
coals are generally associated with siltstones, mudstones and occasional channel
' sandstones.
6.2 Structure
' The exploration area is located on the southwest flank of the Red Wsah syncline,
an asymmetrical flexure on the northeast flank of the Rangely Anticline. The axis
of the syncline trends northwest/southeast and plunges to the southeast towards
t the much larger synclinal structure of the Piceance Basin. Strike within the area
is to the northwest. Dip within most of the area is approximately 7 degrees to
the northeast. As the synclinal aeis is approached, dip becomes nearly horizontal.
North of the synclinal axis, dip reverses steeply to the southwest, forming the
' nearly vertically dipping east/west trending hogbacks oP Coal Ridge. No faulting
is expected.
7.0 PROPOSED DRILLING SITES AND ACCESS
The exploration program for the proposed exploration license area may include the
drilling and logging of 33 exploration holes. The program would be conducted in
' phases. The first phase consisting of twelve exploration holes would be conducted
during the spring and summer of 1989. Provided the results of the first phase of
drilling justified continuing the program, the other 21 holes would be completed
in either 1990 or 1991. Plate 1 (in the pocket) shows the location of the access
' trails for the 33 proposed holes ss well ss the boundary of Deserado Mine leases
and the proposed exploration license boundary. The twelve holes to be drilled
during 1989 are highlighted in red. The other 21 holes are highlighted in green.
t
The 33 holes will result in surface disturbance of about 0.1 acre per location or
' a total of sbcut 3.3 acres. The access roads to the 33 holes would total about
35,500 feet in length and be about 10 feet wide. The total new surface disturbance
' for the access roads would therefore be about 8.1 acres. In the event that the
exploration program is not continued past the first phase, then surface disturbance
' would be considerably less.
6
