I have serious concerns regarding Item its
on the second page in which Mr. Baldwin states that there is
a fan blowing methane gas into the air directly into a
residential subdivision. Upon receipt of this letter, the
Las Animas County Health Department Inspector and I, in my
capacity as Las Animas County Planner, did a physical
inspection of this site-
After reviewing the files in my office, I found a file SUP
75-025 by J. N- Matheson, CF&I Steel Corporation for a
permit to operate an underground coal mine. After checking
through this file, I failed to find anything pertaining to
the installation of a blower or fan in any area outside the
immediate area of the mine. I also fail to find any air
quality or emissions test or data pertaining to this fan.
Unless you can submit some documentation pertaining to this
fan to me in order to clear up this matter, I am afraid
that we have some problems that need to be resolved
regarding this fan.
1) Las Animas County Zoning Laws, Page 34, Section 3.05,
Si.60 Manufacturing, production and other uses not
otherwise listed that will cause excess noise, heat,
dust, fumes or other adverse consequences.
2) No building permit was ever issued for this job.
Michael A.
