' S. The proposed operation will have no significant visual impact. The site is remote,
secluded and away from de--velopment.
' 6. There will be no increase in truck traffic over levels currently experienced from the
Ditmazs Quarry.
7. No additional County services will be required.
' The potential impacts of any mining operation will be minimized by locating the mine away
from residences. These minimal impacts can be guazanteed into the future by locating the mine
' in an azea not planned for urbanization. With respect to future urbanization, the Castle Rock
Quarry site is beyond any municipal planning azea, urban service azea, or rural town influence
azea as shown on the Land Use Map of the Douglas County Master Plan. The site has no urban
' designation.
To compare the number of homes within one mile of the proposed permit azea of the Castle Rock
Quarry and the Ditmazs Quarry, refer to Figure 3.B.1 (1) and (2). The number of homes within
one mile of the Ditmazs Quarry is 238 homes. The Castle Rock Quarry has twenty six homes
within one mile of the proposed permit area.
' Having substantially less residential property located near the Castle Rock Quarry is a significant
advantage.
' Since 1991, CMI has been contributing to the economic base of Douglas County. The existing
Ditmazs operation will be exhausted of rhyolite in 1996. The Castle Rock Quarry rhyolite
deposit will continue to supply an economic base to Douglas County for many decades. The
County will benefit both in business and employment.
' 3.B.2 Negative Impacts
' The following might be considered negative impacts resulting from the proposed mining
operation at the site:
' 1. An increase in truck traffic on 1.5 miles of South Lake Gulch Road between Ridge Road
and Quarry Road.
2. Temporary loss of 60 acres of wildlife habitat.
' 3. Maximum disturbance of 60 acres of land at any given time as follows:
12 acres -cut or block stone azea 48 acres -crushed stone azea
1

2 acres -processing site
6 acres -active mining azea
2 acres -overburden excavated area
2 acres -reclamation
16 acres -plant and processing site
7 acres -active primary mining azea
3 acres -secondary color mining azea
3 acres -secondary color mining azea
8 acres -overburden excavated azea
8 acres -reclamation azea
3 acres -reseed azea
' 15
