L1
In summary, except for short sections of South Lake Gulch Road and Ridge Road, the Castle
Rock Quarry will utilize the exact same truck routes as the Ditmazs Quarry. The vast majority of
' trucks will travel South Lake Gulch Road which recently underwent paving and safety
improvements.
1.E.5 Wildlife
The site is located within a Wildlife Habitat Value area. CMI has contacted the Colorado
' Division of Wildlife to determine the extent of the impact to wildlife habitat. Extraction of the
rhyolite will occur on the grassed upland azea. Although the mine will temporarily displace
' wildlife from the areas directly affected, the extent of the temporary impact will be offset by
reclamation.
' Refer to Section 3.H.1 and Appendix 3 for more information on wildlife.
1.E.6 Historic, Archaeologic, and Paleontologic Resources
' The mining site itself contains no significant historical resources as identified on the Historic
Resources Map of the Douglas County Master Plan. In addition, contact with the State Historic
' Preservation officer indicates there are no known historic or archaeologic resources on the site.
The State Archaeologist will be notified if any artifacts are uncovered during the overburden
removal process.
' 1.E.7 Air Quality
This operation will have an Air Pollution Emissions Notification (ADEN) from the Colorado
Department of Health. This permit will regulate the dust and emissions during the mining
operation. Since the rate of production at the Castle Rock Quarry operation is expected to be
similaz to the Ditmars operation, the closing of the Ditmazs operation and the opening of this
operation will not increase air emissions. Refer to Section 3.C.2 for air quality control measures.
' 1.E.8 Water Quality
The operation is located within the Cherry Creek basin. Because the mining activity is depressed
within the upland, runoff can be Basil}' controlled. Included in this report is a Phase III Drainage
Study (Appendix 6) which outlines how water quality will be preserved and erosion controlled.
' No hzzazdous or foreign materials will be used in the mining operation, therefore, groundwater
contamination is not an issue. Fuel storage on-site will be in accordance with Colorado
Department of Health regulations. fur application meets all adopted water quality goals and
standazds of the State Health Department.

1
