Plans and specifications aze not required for construction
~ € of non-jurisdictional dams. However, filing of a Notice of Intent to Construct
°: aNon-Jurisdictional Dam, a standard form, is required. Obtained at the
~ ~ t Division office, the form must be filed 10 days prior to construction, but no fee
~ J^ ~ is required. The Division Engineer issues the decision on approval of
~' ~ construction. The Division Engineer may require an outlet pipe with a
~ regulating gate to be installed in the bottom of the stream to prcvenl injury to
I ~ existing, downstream, water rights. Since any dam, regardless of size, has the
~ ° potential to cause damage downstream if the dam should fail, we recomme~
you consult a person familiar with proper construction techniques to ensure
b dam performs safely.
i
N
u
I I w
1 ~ ~ ~ ~ o ivestoek Water Tanks (LSWT) are dams constructed to
" ~ W capture natural run-off water on range land to provide water Cor livestock.
= W ~ f
~ ~ _ ; ~ Constructed on normally dry water courses, a LSWT cannot be used for
S _ 1 ~
F n ~ o o ~ irrigation, recreation, etc. A normally drv water course or stream is
a =~ i N ~ W :, ~ '~ considered dry SO°lo of the ume during a calendar year. The Soil
Conservation Service, also, can assist you in preparing an application.
