Fisk and Henningson, Durham & Richardson for Western Pavinc <br />Construction Company. <br />It is my understanding that your department will not raise additional question: <br />beyond those stated in your letter of May 27, 1969. <br />The Engineering Report documents the answers to many of the questions posed. <br />In this letter I will answer the questions submitted by you and refer to <br />pertinent portions of the engineering report. <br />(1) Channel treatment of the St. Vrain River. <br />The char.r.el of the St. Vrain River :will not be altered or affected i;, ny I:;a~. <br />The applicant will leave a natural berm, 20 feet or more in width, around the <br />periphery of its gravel mining operations. Earth fill will be placed ~n a <br />low section of the flood plane of the St. Vrain. In addition, the south brancn <br />of the normal channel of the St. Urain will be strengthened by the con<_truct on <br />of two rock revetments, each about 600 feet in length. Tf the St. Vrain <br />overflows its embankment, water may flow into the excavated area south of the <br />St. Urain. The natural drainage 'at the present time is from northwest to sou~1-I- <br />east. The drainage pattern after site development will likewise be frcm <br />northwest to southeast. As a further protection, Western Paving Construction: <br />Company will construct two overflow spillways one on each side of the St. Vrain. <br />Each spillway will consist of a cut in the natural berm, 50 feet wide, ~vith a <br />depth not exceeding 5 feet. These spill~•rays will provide a safe means of <br />returning to the St. Vrain, above dotirnstream proHe~;;y c•r:ners, water that over- <br />flows the banks of the St. Vrain into the excavated area.
