Gunnison No. 1 Mine, CMLRD Permit No. C-007-80 Dear Susan: I received your letter of February 19, 1987, 'regarding Jim Pendleton's May 7, 1986 inspection and subsequent report which noted a submittal of a stabilization plan. Some work has been done and information has been communicated to the Division, although I do not believe.• it was specifically referred to as a stabilization plan for the Sylvester Gulch Road. The following work has been done: o Power poles along the west side of the Sylvester Gulch road, in the area where the slides are thd'' worst, were relocated to the east side of the road. This was done to protect the power lines and allow necessary future work along the west side of the road on the slides to be carried out without interference from the power lines. A letter and map was submitted to the Division dated August 28, 1986. A letter dated Septembez 3, 1986 approving the line relocation was received by West Elk. o Steel I beams were installed along the east edge of the Sylvester Gulch fan pad on an emergency basis during August of 1986. Wet weather and a broken French drain caused the Northwest edge of the pad to slide. The substation for the fan was affected and had to be lifted from its concrete pad, the base re-compacted, the pad reset, and the substation reinstalled. The broken French drain was repaired, two additional French drains were installed, and treated wood lagging was installed behind the steel beams.
