The enclosed map, "CARNATION MINE,
PERMIT M-1977-416," 1" = 100', presents the features associated with the Permit. Reference
the PROJECT LOCATION MAP, 1" = 300' submitted on February 6, 2003 with the update on
the Sunday Mine, Permit M-1977-285, for a general location of the Carnation Mine; the 1' _
300' maps shows all of the mines and related features associated with the Sunday group of
mines.
The Operator surveyed the Permit area in summer/fall of 2002. While survey work was
underway, the Operator was performing site maintenance and reclamation activities at a number
of mine sites throughout the region. Consequently, minor changes, which are not shown on the
enclosed map, have taken place at the Camation site, These changes will be surveyed in the
upcoming 2003 season, and an updated map will be submitted with the 2003 Annual Report for
the Carnation Mine.
Detail information has been collected during new field surveys to prepare accurate and complete
maps and to report on current site conditions. In the process of surveying the existing site, a
number of discrepancies and/or permit omissions have been observed. These discrepancies and
omissions occurred under former operators. As a consequence, the pre-existing map of the
Affected Area does not reflect site conditions as they existed when this current Operator received
the Permit by transfer in 1997.
The Affected Area at the Carnation Mine has not been delineated, either on maps or in the field.
Based on current site conditions and future use and reclamation considerations for this site, the
Operator has proposed a new Affected Area boundary.
