History of Permit C-1982-056 <br />The Foidel Creek Mine Permit was issued to Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) on May 18, <br />1983. Permit renewals were approved April 13,1988, RN-O1; June 2, 1993, RN-02; Apri124, <br />2000, RN-03; and December 30, 2003, RN-04. <br />Description of the Foidel Creek Mine <br />The Foidel Creek Mine is located approximately 22 miles southwest of Steamboat Springs, in <br />Routt County, Colorado. The Foidel Creek Mine is a lazge, active underground mine. The mine <br />is a longwall operation, using continuous miners for entry and development work. The permit <br />azea encompasses approximately 22,580 acres. Mine-related facilities result in approximately <br />509 acres of surface disturbance. Approved surface disturbances and azeas to be undermined, <br />combined, total approximately 15, 705 acres. <br />The permit azea varies in elevation from 6,600' to 7,500' with the portal openings at 6,885' along <br />Foidel Creek. Disturbed areas of the mine include the main surface facilities azea along Foidel <br />Creek and numerous smaller outlying facilities. The main mine facilities lie in Sections 29, 31, <br />32, TSN, R86W of the 6th Principle Meridian and aze located in, and adjacent to, a reclaimed <br />strip pit mine excavated originally by a Colorado Yampa Coal Company's (CYCC) surface <br />mining operation (Permit No. C-81-071). Other facilities currently within the permit area, but <br />separate from the main portal facility azea, include the Fish Creek Borehole (FCB), the <br />Southwest ventilation shaft, the Eastern Mining District ventilation shaft, the Eastern Mining <br />District dewatering borehole, the Sandstones substation, the North Escape Shaft, the Fish Creek <br />Tipple (FCT), the Eastern Mining District grout hole pad, the Northern Mining District Power <br />borehole, the 18-Right Ventilation Shaft, and the 6 North Ventilation Shaft. <br />The post-mining land uses aze, as were premising land uses, rangeland, pastureland, cropland <br />and wildlife. "~`-` <br />SECTION II -SUMMARY OF PERMIT REVISIONS, VIOLATIONS, STIPULATIONS, <br />VARIANCES, AND BOND <br />Revisions <br />There have been, since RN 04, one permit revision (PR), eight technical revisions (TR), and. <br />sixteen minor revisions (MR). The following is a summary of these revisions, in chronological <br />(date of approval) order.
