Surface water is monitored upstream and downstream of the mine
in both Oak and Trout Creeks, as well as at sediment pond discharge points.
Groundwater is monitored updip and downdip from mining operations, in spoils
aquifers, and in the Oak Creek and Trout Creek alluvium. All treatment and
monitoring structures will be reclaimed when their use is no longer warranted.
Water usage at the mine consists of dust control on roads and at the coal
crushing facilities, and that which is used in the office and bath house
buildings. Water used in dust control is obtained from a pump station located
in Trout Creek. The operator received approval for the pump from the Army
Corps of Engineers. Pittsburg & Midway has obtained rights for all water
usage at the operation. Details concerning water rights are located in
Section 3.6 of the permit application.
_lz_
