TRANSPORTATION: Data nre available for most of the study area. According to <br />Doug Diekman, these data are current. <br />64. acres of soil types and vegetation communities in the project azea. This is needed to <br />determine the magnitude of impacts to these resources. <br />Soils and vegetation maps of the Piceance Site originally developed by the BLM for <br />its Environmental Analysis for the Yankee Gulch Joint Venture Leases (BLM 1982) <br />have been presented in Figure 7-11 and 7-17, respectively of the Commercial Mine <br />Plan. Acreages by soil type and vegetation type can be determined for the Piceance <br />Site from these maps by planimetry or otherwise. Plant communities encountered <br />along the pipeline corridor have been described in Section 7.6.2, as documented in <br />the Environmental Assessment for the recently completed CIG pipeline (CIG 1995). <br />Our presentatiott includes estimates of linear distances of each plant cornrnunity <br />crossed by the pipeline corridor, from which we calculated estimated acreages by <br />vegetation type in Section 8.5. Soils encountered along the pipeline corridor have <br />been described from SCS mapping in Section 7.2.4. Chris Paulsen has indicated that <br />Woodward-Clyde is already in possession of these maps for Rio Blanco County and <br />Garfield County. Linear distances of each soil type encountered along the linear <br />pipeline corridor can easily be measured and estimated acreages calculated by soil <br />type from an assumed corridor width as the did for pipeline corridor vegetation. <br />Acreages by soil type and vegetation type may also be derived from the GIS mapping <br />described in Item 63, above. The only other currently available information is a <br />video taken of the proposed route by Williams Companies in the spring of 1998; <br />however, this does not provide quantitative information. Steigers Corporation will <br />also be having color aerial photography of the entire project area flown in the near <br />fixture, which could be used for vegetation mapping and determination of acreages <br />by planimetry or otherwise. This photography could be provided to Woodward- <br />Clyde within the next 30 to 45 days. <br />Surface Water <br />65. Describe the type of BMPs to be used to control stottnwater runoff. Provide a copy of <br />the SWMP prepared for the test mine site as an example. Were these BMPs implemented? <br />Were they adequate to control erosion? <br />Standnrd BMPs used for construction of similar facilities will be used at the Piceance <br />Site and the Parachute Site to control stormwater runoff.
