Resource Specific Comments
The following information or clarifications aze requested by resource topic.
Geology and Soils
62b. detailed erosion control and reclamation plan with specific plans for implementation of
BMPs. We can provide examples of the level of detail, if necessary.
Erosion control and reclamation plans are being developed for the commercial
solution mining operation. These plans will be provided to Woodward-Clyde upon
completion.
63. GIS maps for soils and vegetation -- are there no maps available for the pipeline and
Parachute site?
GIS information is available for the entire White River Resource Area from the
BLM office in Meeker. Steigers Corporation has acquired the BLM's GIS
information for the Piceance Site and the northern approximately two-thirds of the
pipeline route, and these data have been incorporated into aproject-specific data
base and were provided to Woodward-Clyde on September 11, 1998.
We have contacted the following sources regarding the potential availabilih~ of GIS
data for the Parachute Creek Drainage Basin:
Carla Scheck -BLM in Glenwood Springs (970) 947-2800
Doug Diekman -BLM in Grand Junction (970) 244-3087
Pam Schnurr - CDOW in Grand Junction (970) 255-6180
The BLM and CDOW are working on several cooperative projects to map the
Parachute Creek and Roan Creek drainage basins for a variety of resources. The
following GIS data are currently available (best ordered through Doug Diekman,
BLM):
VEGETATION: Preliminary (draft) vegetation mapping has been completed via
satellite imagery. Ground truthing has been completed for only a small portion of
the shady area. Final mapping will not be available for at least another 12 months.
SOILS: Soils mapping is available for the entire study area.
SURFACE OWNERSHIP: Surface ownership, based on 1998 title plots, is available
for the entire st:~dy area.
26
