<br /> <br />~ 9.3.2 Soil Conservation Service Research Plots and Upper Colorado <br />nvironmen a an en er <br />In 1975, Climax became involved with other interested parties in the <br />development of a new plant material center in the Upper Colorado Region. <br />Two Soil Conservation Districts, Douglas Creek, and White River, were <br />particularly interested and agreed to accept the responsibility of owning <br />and operating the center, located near Meeker, Colorado. Climax along with <br />other companies, state and federal agencies, and other priv.3te sources <br />donated funds for the center. The center was formally dedicated in July <br />1977. <br />One of the priorities of the center i s to develop plan materi ~i1 s for the <br />revegetation of alpine and subalpine disturbed lands. There are presently <br />two on-going research projects at Climax in cooperation with the Upper <br />Colorado Environmental Plant Center. These include species evaluation <br />plantings for woody potted plants, and seeded grass and grass-like plants. <br />9.3.3 Colorado Mountain College (Leadville, Coloradol <br />Climax cooperates with Colorado Mountain College's Environmental Protection <br />Technology (E.P.T.) section to provide technical assistance regarding high <br />altitude revegetation and other related environmental activities,. In 1976 <br />and 1977, revegetation materials were provided to the E.P.T. class to use <br />for field studies, which occurred on Climax Property. Climax also assists <br />the E.P.T. Advisory Board to provide quality education and coum~il for its <br />students. <br />44 <br />
