A second workshop was
organized in 1976, 1978, 1980, and 1982, and field trips have been held each
summer since 1974. AMAX personnel were involved with the organization of
the inital workshop and continue to be involved. Proceedings of both
workshops are available from the CSU Environmental Resources Center as
Information Series No. 10, Proceedings of a Workshop on Revegetation of
High-Altitude disturbed lands, W.A. Berg, J.A. Brown and R.L. Cuany
(editors, and Information Series No. 21, Proceedings: High-Altitude
Revegetation Workshop No. 2, R.H. Zuck and L.F. Brown (editors).
AMAX sponsored the 1975 meeting at Vail of the "solid Mineral Waste
Stabilization Liaison Committee," a small group of public and private
reclamation specialists from across the country and Canada who meet annually
for formal presentations (with published proceedings) an~i informal
discussions and field trips covering a wide variety of reclamation projects.
AMAX also sponsored a comprehensive literature review of work done on
rehabilitation of disturbed high-altitude lands. The product is a
bibliography with abstracts and a subject index. It should be an aid to
anyone involved in reclamation at high altitudes and is also a~iailable on
request from the CSU Environmental Resource Center as Information Series No.
14, Bibliography pertinent to Disturbance and Rehabilitation of Alpine and
Subalpine Lands in the Southern Rocky Mountains, Ordell Steen and W.A.
