-33-
The cumulative hydrologic assessment indicates that the mining operation has
been designed to prevent material damage to the hydrologic balance of the
ground water outside the permit area.
References Cited
Bass, N.M.; Eby, J.B.; and Campbell, M.r., 1955, Geology and Mineral fuels
of parts of Routt and Moffat Counties, Colorado: Bulletin 1027-D,
U.S.G.S., Plate 19.
Boettcher, A.J., 1972, Ground-water Occurrence in Northern and Central
Parts of Western Colorado, Colorado Water Conservation Board, Water
Resources Circular 15.
Brogden, R.E. and Giles, T.F., 1977, Reconnaissance of Ground-water
Resources in a Part of the Yampa River Basin between Craig and
Steamboat Springs, Moffat and Routt counties, Colorado, U.S.
Geological Survey, Water Resources Investigation 77-4.
McWhorter, D.B.; Rowe, J.W.; Van Liew, M.W.; Chander, R.L.; Skogerboe,
R.K., Sunada, D.K.; and Skogerboe, G.V., 1979, Surface and Subsurface
Water Quality Hydrology in Surface Mined Watersheds, U.S.E.P.A., EPA
Pub. 600/7-790-193a.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management, 1976, Environmental Impact Statement,
Northwest Colorado Coal: Volume I, Regional Analysis and Vol. Site
Specific Analysis, U.S. B.L.M., Department of the Interior
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1976, Quality Criteria for Water:
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C., 20460, 256 pp.
Warner, James W.; and Dale, Robert H., 1982, Digital-Transport Model Study
of the Potential Effects of Coal-Resource Development on the
Ground-Water System in the Yampa River Basin, Moffat and Routt
Counties, Colorado: U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources
Investigation 81-15, 70 p.
X. Climatological Information and Air Resources - Rules 2.04.8,
Climatological data for Steamboat Springs and Hayden is provided on pages
II.H-1 and II.H-2 of the application. Although Hayden is only 11 miles from
the site, Steamboat precipitation means are probably closer to conditions at
Grassy Gap, since the mine elevation is 7,400 to 8,000 feet, as compared to
6,400 feet at Hayden and 6,700 feet at Steamboat Springs. Annual
precipitation at Steamboat is 23.47 inches, with over 50% falling as snow from
November through April.
