-14-
2. THE PERMITTEE WILL SAMPLE SITES SWl through 10 TWICE YEARLY, ONCE
DURING SPRING MELT AND ONCE DURING A STORM EVENT. SITES WILL HAVE
FIELD PARAMETERS TESTED WITH FLOW DESCRIBED. CHEMICAL ANALYSES WILL
BE SUBMITTED FOR EACH SITE WITH FLOW. THE PERMITTEE WILL SUBMIT ALL
SURFACE WATER DATA ANNUALLY TO THE DIVISION.
3. THE ALLUVIAL WELLS MW1-3, WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED MONTHLY
FOR WATER LEVEL, pH, EC, AND TEMPERATURE. THE FULL CHEMICAL SUITE AS
PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED WILL BE ANALYZED SEMI-ANNUALLY; ONCE DURING
SNOWMELT AND ONCE DURING A RAINFALL EVENT.
THIS INFORMATION WILL BE COMPILED BY THE PERMITTEE AND SUBMITTED TO
THE DIVISION ON AN ANNUAL BASIS.
With the acceptance of the above stipulations, the operation is in compliance
with the requirements of this section.
VI. Ground Water Hydrology - Rules 2.04.5, 2.04.7, 2.05.3(4), 2.04.5(3)
ana 4.05
The ground water information within the permit application is found in
Section II-E. A description of ground water occurrences and mining impacts
within the permit and adjacent areas can be found in Section IX - "Probable
Hydrologic Consequences of Mining and Cumulative Hydrologic Impact Study" of
this document.
Due to the increased reactive surface area of spoil material, there is the
possibility that ground water seeping from the reclaimed pits at the Grassy
Gap Mine will be of poor quality and may detrimentally impact the water
quality of the permit and adjacent areas. The applicant proposes to drill
three ground water monitoring wells into reclaimed Pits 2 and 5 and one at the
base of Pit 4 when reclaimed. These wells will supply needed information on
changes in ground water quality in the compacted spoil at these pits. The
applicant has submitted the information needed to determine if the spoil in
these pits is representative of the material in Pits 1, 3, and 6. Therefore,
it is possible to project the results of the monitoring of Pits 2, 4, and 5 to
the other pits. The following stipulation is required to insure timely and
proper installation of these monitoring wells.
Stipulation No. 4:
THE PERMITTEE WILL PLACE GROUND WATER MONITORING WELLS IN RECLAIMED
PITS 2 AND 5. THESE WELLS WILL BE COMPLETED DOWN TO BEDROCK AND
LOCATED ON THE RESPECTIVE DOWNDIP SIDES OF THE PITS. THE PERMITTEE
WILL HAVE THE LOCATIONS OF ALL WELLS APPROVED BY THE DIVISION BEFORE
DRILLING AND IMPLACEMENT OF MONITORING EQUIPMENT. ACCEPTABLE PLANS
MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 1 MONTH OF PERMIT ISSUANCE AND THE WELLS
MUST BE INSTALLED DURING THE 1984 CONSTRUCTION SEASON. WELL
COMPLETION DIAGRAMS WILL BE SUBMITTED TO THE DIVISION WITHIN ONE
MONTH OF COMPLETION. THESE WELLS WILL BE TESTED QUARTERLY FOR FIELD
PARAMETERS AND CHEMICAL PARAMETERS. THE RESULTS WILL BE SUBMITTED TO
THE DIVISION ON AN ANNUAL BASIS.
