G. TEMPORARY SUSPENSION PLAN
The permittee may temporarily or intermittently suspend mining operations and
underground injection in some or all wells. During periods of temporary suspension, the
permittee shall not actively mine by underground injection of fluids and shall operate its
facility in accordance with the following requirements.
At the time a well is placed in temporary suspension status, there shall be no injection
into that well. Injection may resume only after a mechanical integrity test has
demonstrated mechanical integrity and written permission from the Director is received.
In order to assure the possible restart of well field operations at a future time, the wells
will be placed in a state of temporary suspension using the following procedures:
Notification
a. The permittee shall give advance written notice to the Director, as soon as
possible, prior to commencing temporary suspension of well operations.
Notice shall include identification of all wells to be placed in temporary
suspension status.
b. The pennittee shalt not be deemed to be operating in a temporary
suspension mode until 5 business days after the date that notification of
temporary suspension is sent to the Director.
c. Iri addition to receiving written authorization to resume injection as
specified in II(G) above, the permittee shall give written notice to the
Director within 5 business days of actually resuming well operations and
shall identify all wells returned to service. For any well that has suspended
operations for more than two yeazs, the permittee shall notify the Director
30 days prior to resuming operation of the well.
2. Well Operation
a. Injection into each well will be suspended and the well will be
depressurized by allowing production flow to continue with the assistance
of a booster pump.
b. The well and cazbonate concentration of remaining fluid within the cavity
shall be stabilized to allow the well to return to service at a later date.
During the period of suspending the well, the volumetric flow and mass
balance (of fluids moving into and out of the cavity) will be outside of the
limits set by Part II Section D(1)(i) of this UIC Permit. Hence during the
transition from normal operation to Temporary Suspension of a cavity,
those requirements and the corresponding corrective action requirements
in Part II Section D(1)(j) will be waived.
Draft Modification No. 9 LTIC Area Permit No. C030858-00000 Page 14 of 44
