Proposed lanQUa¢e:
Monitoring of water quality and water level shall occur according to the Water Monitoring Plan,
Appendix I. The permittee has already collected five (5) quarters of baseline data, prior to the
commencement of operations, for the Alluvial Aquifer, the Upper Aquifer (A-Groove and Uinta
Formation), and the Lower Aquifer (B-Groove and Dissolution Surface). Additional monitoring
wells may be deleted or added to the monitoring program, if necessary, as development of the
commercial solution mining well field progresses, or as warranted by monitoring results. This will
be done by modifying the Water Monitoring Plan (see Section D. 4~n paragraph of Permit).
• Part II, C (6), Injection Fluid Limitation, the last paragraph of the section is proposed to be
changed as follows:
Current language:
Injection of any hazazdous waste as identified by EPA under 40 CFR § 261.3 is prohibited. Upon
a major change in the fluid sources, the permittee must re-demonstrate compliance with 40 CFR §
262.11 (page 21 of the Water Monitoring Plan), Appendix I.
Proposed IaneuaHe:
Injection of any hazardous waste as identified by EPA under 40 CFR § 261.3 is prohibited. Upon
a major change in the fluid sources, the Permittee must re-demonstrate compliance with 40 CFR §
262.11. The Water Monitoring Plan (Appendix I) includes this requirement.
• Part II, D, Monitoring, 1st paragraph of the section is proposed to be changed as follows:
Current language:
The permittee is required to carry out the activities described in the monitoring plan. The data must be
reported and maintained as provided in Section II D.4 of the Permit. The 4th Revision of the Water
Monitoring Plan, dated December 23, 1999, has been incorporated into the Permit as Appendix I.
Proposed lan¢ua¢e:
The permittee is required to carry out the activities described in the monitoring plan. The data
must be reported and maintained as provided in Section II D.4 of the Permit. The Ground Water,
Surface Water, and Process Monitoring Plan (Water Monitoring Plan), dated September 2004,
has been incorporated into the Permit as Appendix I.
• Part II, D, Monitoring, 2nd paragraph of the section is proposed to be changed as follows:
Current language:
The Water Monitoring Plan includes ground-water monitoring, for the Piceance Site (solution well field
and upper plant) and the Parachute Site (lower plant, which is not covered by the Permit). It also
contains a process monitoring section, (found in Section 4.0 of the Water Monitoring Plan, Appendix I)
for mining operations at the Piceance Site.
Proposed language:
The Water Monitoring Plan includes ground-water monitoring, for the Piceance Site (solution
well field and upper plant) and process monitoring for mining operations at the Piceance Site.
