-30-
XI V. Prime Farmlano - Rules 2.04.12, 2.06.6 and 4.25
Based on information provided by the applicant on page 2.04.12 and Division
contact with the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service, the Division finds that
there are no prime farmland soils within the permit area.
The Division finds the operation in compliance with Rules 2.07.6(2)(k) with
regard to prime farmlands.
The operation is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
XV. Operations Description - Rules 2.05.2, 2.05.3(1), 2.05.3(2) and 4.01
The Division has reviewed the information provided by the applicant in Section
D of the permit application.
Walden Coal Company plans to mine coal at a rate of approximately 100,000 tons
per year during this permit term. Total disturbance will encompass 109.6
acres. The life-of-mine is anticipated to be five years.
Two coal seams will be mined by truck and shovel mining operations at the
site. The upper seam (Hoyle) overlies the lower seam (Sudduth) at the
northwestern portion of the penmit area, but is absent elsewhere. The mine
plan allows for the recovery of the Hoyle seam, with the subsequent recovery
of the lower Sudduth seam.
The seams dip toward the northwest with the Hoyle seam averaging 16 feet in
thickness and the Sudduth seam averaying 25 feet in thickness. Approximately
80 feet of interburden separate the seams.
The operation is found to be in compliance with the requirements of this
section.
XVI. Explosives - Rules 2.05.3(6) and 4.08
The Division has reviewed the information submitted by the applicant on page
D-3 of the permit application.
The applicant has not used explosives during the operation of the mine to this
point. The applicant states that if blasting becomes necessary in the future,
a detailed blasting plan will be submitted to the Division for approval at
least 60 days prior to the proposed initiation of blasting.
The applicant is in compliance with the requirements of this section.
