The operator is required (letter: Sorenson to Fraser, 10/6/95) to remove
tailing slimes from the Hazel-A adit. The adit is to be cleaned "down to
intact rock". The 10/6/95 letter specified that the "procedure for the
slimes removal operation must be described in detail in a written
submittal to the Division, which must be reviewed and approved by the
Division prior to initiation of the project". Items which must be
included in the operator's proposal are:
1. Description of tailing and process water removal method that will
assure containment until tailing and water can be redeposited in the
pond.
2. A statement from the operator that any spillage during the tailing
clean-out operation will be immediately contained and removed to the
tailing impoundment.
3. Detailed procedure for reconstruction of the Hazel-A bulkhead,
including provisions for relining the inby face of the bulkhead with
hypalon, PVC, or other durable plastic, and for sealing the bulkhead
at the interface with the rib.
4. A statement from the operator that the Hazel-A adit will be
accurately surveyed to determine water storage capacity behind the
bulkhead.
5. The Division needs to be satisfied that the slimes removal
procedures proposed will be adequate to eliminate virtually 100
percent of the tailing material deposited in the adit.
COM, Inc. has been notified that the Division will need to receive the
written proposal by Wednesday, 11/22/95 if they want to initiate the
project by 11/27/95. If the project is underway by 11/27/95. I intend to
be on-site to observe the operations.
