STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY .~
Depanmenl of N. wral Resources ti'-
(~
1713 Sherman SI., Room 215
Denver, CO 8020) ~
~ ~
" ~
Phone: 11071 866-3 5 6 7 ~
FAX: UIl 11 IIS2.81 UI~
Roy Romer
Governor
Michael B. long
Division Dlreclor
Mr. David Blake
Blake Mining Co.
P.O. Bnx 740
Nucla,IColoradu 81424
RE: Surety Adjustments & Mine Inspections, Permit Nos. M-78-311
(Hewkeye Mine) & M-78-342 (Bllison Mine).
Dear• Mr. Blake:
Enclosed ore the inspection reports and revised cost estimates
for the above referenced mining operations. As can be seen in
the attac}led documents, the actual extent of disturbance at the
two sites is significantly less then what appeared to be the
case after reviewing the original permit documents alone. As
such, the Division's initial cost figures were revised downward
to more accurately ref'.lect actual site conditions. Ae soon as
Jim Stevens returns from vacation, I will discuss the idea of
adding.a stipulation to each permit requiring a re-evaluation
of the. bond prior to either mine returning to active statue and
prior to initiating arty new disturbance at either site.
Additionally, please review the problem resolution comments for
each operation, especially the Hawkeye Mine. The necessary work
is minor in nature but is essential to be completed given the
probable extended temporary cess:ltiDn status of the mine. Please
contact me at the Durango Field Office, ph. 247-5062 if you have
ar[y questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Tom Gillis
Reclamation Specialist
/tdg
Enclosures
