Mine waste at the Refuse Disposal Area will be covered with four feet <br />of soil, although analyses of the waste does not indicate that impervious lin- <br />ings in the disposal areas are necessary. Monitoring of surface and ground <br />water quality at the site will be used to determine if additional protection <br />measures shall become necessary (see "Waste Disposal" section of the TEA). <br />Per anent and Tem orary Im oundments <br />No permanent impoundments are proposed for the Deserado Mine. Impoundments are <br />restricted to sedimentation ponds. Design adequacy is treated in the "Sedimen- <br />tation Ponds" section of the TEA. <br />The applicant has not stated an intention to modify any of the sedimentation <br />ponds in future years of this permit term. <br />Underground Mine Entry and Access Discharges <br />All mine openings and drill holes will be located, designed and constructed to <br />r <br />prevent gravity discharge of water from the mine. (page V-27 of the permit ap- <br />plication and "Sealing of Drilled Holes and Underground Openings" section of <br />the TEA). <br />Surface Water Monitoring <br />Surface water monitoring sites are shown on Figure II. C-11 of the permit <br />application. Surface water monitoring is discussed on pages II. ~C-6.4.through~ <br />II. C-66 in the application, which includes the water quality analytical <br />schedule given in Table II. C-8. ~. , <br />The applicant has applied for an NP DES permit and intends to conform to those <br />guidelines. The proposed monitoring program will be conducted in accordance <br />with requirements of section 4.05.2 of the Colorado Permanent Regulatory Pro- <br />gram. Quarterly reports will be submitted within 90 days following the end of <br />each quarter or as required by the NP DES permit (page II C-66A of the permit <br />application).
