EROSION CONTROT. HATFRTAT. TN:'~'I'AI,I,A'I'I(iN
The outcast waste slope measures 240" long by 80" wide and
exhibits a 1H:1V to a 1.SH:1V slope. Surface waste material
varies yet is predominately crusted shales. All slope work will
require the use of ropes. The slope will first be hand scarifed
prior to seeding. Seed (supplied) will be broadcast over the
entire area working from the top to bottom. There will be 3
different types of erosion control material to be installed on
the slope. The first application will be of a polypropylene mesh
called Polyjute, The portion of the slope which will have the
Polyjute applied will be required to be smoothed of ridges and
rocks which affect uniform contact of the matting to the slope
surface. This will be done prior to seeding. One roll of
Polyjute measures 12"6" wide X 432" long, is 901bs., and will be
required to be cut in half lengthwise to form two 216" rolls for
this application. The Polyjute will be anchored in a 6"w by
12"deep trench at the top of the slope 3" beyond the crest of the
slope. The Polyjute will be stapled on 1" spacings with the soil
backfilled and hand compacted. Staples are 6" x 1" x 6", 11
gauge U-shaped wire staples. The Polyjute will then be rolled
downslope and stapled on 2"cc rows. Staples within the rows will
be spaced every Z.5". A second roll will be likewise applied
with a 6" edge overlap. The overlap centerline will be stapled
within the general stapling pattern.
Two other erosion control materials will be applied. These two
applications will require a minimum 100 cfm, 100 psi compressor
with 300" of 1"d hose. The compressor will be used to apply two
different kinds of a polypropylene fiber product called
Landstrand. The creel dispenser system and air gun will be
supplied by the manufacturers representative. The application of
Landstrand will be performed with no measurable wind and must be
followed by an application of an asphalt emulsion tackifier. The
SS or CSS1 asphalt emulsion must be sequenced to follow the
application of the Landstrand so that an approximate 15" length
of Landstrand is applied and is followed by the asphalt
tackifier. During the tackifier application, caution will be
used in not disturbing the Landstrand applied surface with the
tackifier hoses. The Landstrand, once applied, can be walked on
yet there will still be a need for another person to direct
hoses. The seed, Polyjute, staples for the Polyjute, Landstrand
material, applicator gun and creel will be provided by the State.
The contractor will supply the asphalt emulsion and distributer
system (truck, wand, hose).
MACHINE TIME
In addition to the erosion control material installation, minor
surface preparation work will be needed for revegetation
procedures on the upper coal flat and lower streamside reworked
area. This will primarily involve ripping with a 67 fhp track
machine (D3 or equivilent). Multiple rippers (3) will be 24" ec.
The machine will also be used in assisting the asphalt
