Current Water Monitoring
The current water monitoring plan requires water levels and water quality sampling of ground
water resources in the vicinity of the mine and mine workings. Three alluvial wells are
monitored twice annually for water level and field parameters and sampled annually for water
quality. These three alluvial wells are not in the immediate vicinity of the area of interest.
Four bedrock wells, one south and east of the mine workings and three north of the mine
workings, are monitored annually for water level. Two former ventilation shaft locations
(Jeffrey intake called GEM-1 and 3rd North intake called GEM-2) are used to monitor water
level in the flooding mine workings twice each year and annually the water is tested for
generally water quality. The NW-1 vent shaft, called GEM-3, is measured twice annually for
water level. Water sampling is not conducted at this location due to plumbing issues at the
surface. Water level in the flooded workings stood at 6775 feet AMSL and data trends
indicate the mine is flooding at a rate of about 1.3 feet per month. Cross sections and water
level plots are included in Appendix A.
TABLE 1.2-7 HYDROLOGY MONITORING REQUIREMENTS GOLDEN EAGLE
Site Water Level Measurement A^nual List
Groundwater Sites:
PAW-5 S S A
PAW-6 S S A
CCAW-I S S A
SF-2 (Overburden} A ~ '
NM-22 (Overburden) A
NM-20 (Overburden) A
NM-21 (Coal) _ A
GEM-1 (Mine workings) S A A
GEM-2 (Mine workings) S A A
GEM-3 (Mine workings) 5
KEY:
S =Semi-Annual (May antl November)
A =Annually (November)
' =See Table 1.2-2 for parameters included in each suite
TABLE 1.2-2 WATER QUALITY PARAMETER SAMPLE SUITES GOLDEN EAGLE
MINE
Field Measurements Annual list
Water Level (Depth) Sodium Absorption Ration (SAR)
pH (S.UJ Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) (mgp)
Conductivity (µmhos/cm) Carbonate (mg/I)
Temperature (°C) Bicarhonate (mg/1)
Sulfate (mg/l )
Manganese, Total(mg/I) -
hfanganese, Dissolved (mg/l)
Calcium (mg/1)
Magnesium (mg/I)
Sodium (mg/I)
Iron, Total (mg/I) -
Iron, Dissolved (mg/I)
Lead (mg/1)
Selenium, Dissolved (mg/1)
Hardness
