June 17, 1985
PROPOSED DECISION
WEST ELK COAL COAL COMPANY
Mt Gunnison No. 1 Mine
The Colorado Division of Mined Land Reclamation proposes to approve with
stipulations an application for a permit revision to construct a permanent
waste disposal site within the existing permit area. The disposal site will
handle coal processing waste, underground development waste, and waste rock.
Preliminary designs on the pile were originally submitted with the original
permit application No. C-007-80. The permit revision finalizes those designs.
This approval decision is based on a finding that the proposed operation will
comply with all requirements of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation
Act, C.R.S. 1973 34-33-101 et. seq., and the Rules promulgated thereunder.
The finding of compliance, and the stipulations which are a part of this
approval, are attached to this document.
The permit cannot be issued until all statutory notice and public comment
requirements have been satisfied.
