' ~ -Z 9- <br />Production figures for the pasture show that 1,000 air-dried pounds/acre can <br />be expected from this area. Removal of 12.5 acres of land from production <br />effectively reduces total production in the AvF 21.5. Total production from <br />the entire farming operation is 244,800 lbs. This figure is based on the above <br />mentioned production figure for the pasture plus the additional 347 acres, with <br />a production figure of 400 lb./acre. The mining disturbance therefore <br />effectively reduces the farms total production by So, Based on this analysis, <br />the Division finds the removal of Z2,6 acres of the AVF from production to be <br />negligible when compared to the farm's total production. xowever, any additional <br />disturbance to the AVF will not be allowed. <br />The proposed operation will interruptagriculture, but the Division finds that <br />the disturbed area is of such small acreage as to be of negligible impact on <br />the farm's production. <br />2, Rule 2.06.8 (5) (a) (i) (A) (I) <br />The present mining activities crere approved under previous mine plans. <br />Information contained in the permit application and site inspections by <br />Division personnel indicate that the present mining activities may presently <br />be impacting and will impact in the future, the quantity and quality of surface <br />and ground water systems that supply alluvial valley floors along Stollsteimer <br />Creek. (AZso~see Section titled "Assessment of Probable Hydrologic Consequences <br />of Mining and Cumulative Hydrologic Impacts".) <br />The applicant has provided to the Division an estimate of the amount and rate <br />of water which will be depleted From Stollsteimer Creek following closure of <br />the mine. The total amount of water which will be depleted from Stollsteimer <br />Creek to recharge the spoils aquifer, which will develop in the existing pit, <br />is approximately 42 million gallons. The rate of recharge will be the sum of <br />infiltration - deep percolation rate (1 gpm), and the rate of inflow from the <br />pit walls (SO gpm). The rate of inflow from the pit walls will decrease <br />logarithmically from 10 to 0 gpm with time. The calculated time for complete <br />recharge of the spoil aquifer will be between 20 and 30 years. Therefore, <br />there will be a continuous depletion of water tributary to the AvF's for a <br />similar period. This depletion of water tributary to Stollsteimer Creek will <br />be negligible. <br />After the spoil aquifar has been fully recharged, a mound of ground water will <br />begin to develop in the spoils. Eventually the spoil aquifer will begin to <br />discharge water of lower quality to the bedrock aquifers, stream alluvium and <br />ultimately to Stollsteimer Creek. <br />
