Hastey, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) associate
director, said the FEIS analyzes environmental consequences of a proposal
by Deseret Generation and Transmission Cooperative to construct the Moan
Lake Power Plant Project (Units 1 and Z) northwest of Bonanza in Uintah
Lounty, Utah, and a proposal by Western Fuels-Utah, Inc., to develop and
operate an underground coal mine northeast of Rangely, Colorado.
The two 400-megawatt electric generating units of the power
plant would need up to 17,470 acre-feet of water which is proposed to be
piped south approximately 19 miles to the Bonanza site r'rom a collector
well system beside the Green River. The proposed project would require
up to 2.7 million tons of coal annually, delivered to the site by a 35-
mile-long electric railroad from the proposed Rangely mine.
Electricity generated by Unit 1 of the proposed power plan.
would be distributed by one 345-kilovolt (kv) alternative current (,a.c.)
transmission line to a proposed substation near Mona, Juab County.
Utah, and by three '_38-kv a.c lines to existing substations ne=_r Uoalco,
Duchesne County, and Vernal, Uintah County, in Utah, and Raneely, Rio
3lanco County, Colorado.
