\. MRR-11-1994 13:53 FROM ~LNRM TECH SUC DEV LRB TO
~'~
vta to Of CO1 Orad0
hli7ied Lsnd Reclamation
13038328106 P.004i007
• Page 2
(.ii) P:xhibit C, page 2(,d) mentions the .reason the cement
plant was excluded from affected land. This exclusion
eras approved by Mr. Schmieding after consultation with
Mr. McCall. Portland cement is a separate manufactured
product vrith cement plant equipment and buildings ex-
cluded from affected land in several states with similar
regulations.
(,iii) Exhibit D. Introduction mentions an s.verage thick-
ness of 35.4 feet of the lower Fort Hays limestone ~ ~~~
is quarried with II to 12 feet of the overlying &
~3~. This /,3 to 48 total fe e•t of limeetone~ has
u.sua.lly been quarried in one bench; however, a recent
two-bench operation was initiated Tor quality control
reasons.

The quarry floor slopes about 25 feet per 1,000 feet
to the southwest. The surface elevations as indicated
~~ by the 5-f t. interval topography shown on map pee-1387
r~(Q ~~ y ~ is primarily th.e erosional pattern of the limestone de-
~' ~~~- ? posit, with minor varying amounts of soil materials and
Ov gravels as generally located in Exhibit B (c ), para-
graph 3. The location and depths of these materia~.s are
not a matter of record other than the difference between
surface and floor elevations at any given location.
Limestone quality information is available from a few
e.lec~P.ed core drill holes for general estimation.

~
~ Overall stripping rltio of the west quarry was calculated
~~"`
"`{
"
~~ at about 1 to 1, but recent operation indicates this

~~'""U'~~ may approach 1.3 'to 1. Bench depths vary according
to 62~e actual conditions encountered as the quarry ad-
;.f f,~,-fj,~ofi~'~ vancee, amo»nts of cement types manufactured including
~ex~c~ factors mentioned in Exhibit D (.e ). Due to these fac-
~~
GO ~t' tors and th.e long range nature of the operation, only
/ general information of bench depth and quarry advance
can be given,
The small (./,0,000 tons per year). amount of sandstone
to be quarried will vary in depth of excavation up to
;~.bou~r, 8 feet, normally quarried to allow gravity drain-
rif'e of water from the excavation.
II. Exhibit A - Legal Description
Leal descriptions in Sections 8 and 9, references 10-acre
tracts numbered 1 through 64 in each. section in th.e same
manner as sections within a township. For clarification
purposes, these a"action II and 9 lands can also be described
as fi,.l.7.ow;::
