Permit Application #CO-037-81. <br />#8, #9 Enclosed (please find one copy each of the following <br />tables, maps and a letter issued to <br />from USOAService Center, March 30, <br />average depth of soil salvage for e <br />the related soil sample information <br />and the description of these tables <br />follows: ~ <br />Table 2.05.4 Insi'tu Topsoil/Subsoil <br />GEC Minerals, Inc. <br />1983 providing the <br />3ch soil type, and <br />in GEC's North Area, <br />are described as <br />Numerous soil samples were taken by the Soil Conservation Service <br />early 1983 to determine the topsoil suitability for soils within <br />the North Area where GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to mine by 1984. The <br />results of these samples are shown in the attached Soil Sample In- <br />formation, whichindicates that three types of soils are present <br />in the North Area. The Tecolote and the Pojoaque Variant-Sedillo <br />Complex soils both are very poor source of topsoil due mainly to <br />the very thin sur~iface layer and the large stones and fragmented <br />material on the surface and in the subsoil. Therefore, an average <br />of 2 inches was used to evaluate the volume for the "North Area". <br />The only available soils for saving as a suitable plant medium <br />would be the Sata~nta Series, which was recommended by the SCS, and <br />an average depth 'of 30 inches was used to develop the volume for <br />topsoil/subsoil mass balance.
